Serve With Us
We take seriously Jesus' commandments to serve the least of these: the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the imprisoned, the stranger and the sick, and we believe that God has given everyone something to offer when it comes to showing God's love to the world.
The service of our church is led by our deacons, who organize and coordinate a variety of projects and programs throughout the year. We hope you will get involved:
Opportunities to Serve with Us:
VOLUNTEERS FOR DUMA FOOD PANTRY
SECOND & FOURTH TUESDAYS
Volunteers are always needed at the Dunn United Ministerial Association (DUMA) Food Pantry on distribution days: the Second Tuesday and Fourth Tuesday of each month. If you are interested in volunteering, contact deacons Patsy Williams or Casey Kerley.
MEALS ON WHEELS
THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
Volunteers are always needed to deliver meals to shut-ins throughout our community each week. If you are interested in joining the delivery schedule for Meals on Wheels, contact deacons Jackye Sholar or Faye Jackson.
RISE AGAINST HUNGER
During March our church joins with other congregations and organizations throughout the Dunn area for Rise Against Hunger, an event where volunteers package thousands of wholesome rice-based meals that are shipped to impoverished areas around the world. During the March 2019 event, the Dunn Community packaged 110,000 meals. The 2020 packaging event schedule will be available soon. For more information, contact deacon Anne Johnson.
THE EASTER BASKET PROJECT
Each Easter, volunteers from our congregation prepare gift baskets that are delivered to foster children throughout Harnett County. In 2018, our congregation prepared baskets for 73 kids. For more information, contact deacons Susan Williamson, Claudette Green & Patsy Williams.
THE SHOE PROJECT
MAY & OCTOBER
Each Spring and Fall, our congregation collects money to purchase shoes for underserved kids from the Harnett County School System. For more information, you can contact Morgan Colmenaro or Melissa Stevens.
ADULT MISSION TEAMS
Last November, we sent a 12 member mission team to the Appalachian Service Project in Jonesville, VA. ASP is an organization which works to improve the lives of residents in impoverished rural communities in Appalachia. Currently our deacons are organizing local, national and international mission trips. For more information on how you can join our future mission teams, contact deacons Lee Herring, Russ Warren or Anne Johnson.
THE ANGEL TREE PROJECT
Each Christmas, members of our church are encouraged to "adopt" and provide Christmas gifts for an underserved community child. Each child's age, clothing sizes and Christmas wishes are provided by the Harnett County School System and are noted and ready for selection off our 'angel tree'. For more information, contact deacon Morgan Colmenaro or Susan Hatley.
